Photographers : Marvin Bonheur, Xavier Cuevas and Destiny Mata

The three artists featured in this exhibition share a common starting point: a desire to tell the stories of the working-class neighborhoods they grew up in, through an intimate perspective.

Although taken thousands of kilometers apart, their images resonate with one another, echoing the project initiated by Marvin Bonheur several years ago.

Using their cameras, often analog, they document the places of their childhood and adolescence — places that have been transformed, sometimes on the verge of disappearing, and which were often left undocumented by those who lived there.

They create these images alongside the residents, placing them at the center of the frame and giving them the freedom to interpret their own reality. Combining various documentary styles, they sharpen their gaze and unleash their creativity to capture the right image and define their own representation.

From Paris to Detroit, through London, New York, and Martinique, we encounter these familiar scenes around grocery stores, fried chicken spots, and card games between neighbors.

Day by day, the photographers are building their own archives — the ones they had searched for as adults but could never find, because they simply did not exist.
